Koyo Ibushi Harima is a striking wall tile series handcrafted in Funatsu‑cho, Himeji by the master ceramicists at Koyo Seiga. Using the traditional Ibushi Kawara method, high-quality clay is slowly fired and then smoked in a reduction chamber, creating a natural carbon layer across the surface. This process produces the signature Ibushi Silver finish, a soft metallic sheen that shifts subtly with the light and develops a richer patina over time. Koyo’s craftsmanship in this technique has been trusted for nearly a century, including its use in the restoration of the UNESCO-listed Himeji Castle.

The Harima collection includes three variants: Yama A, Yama B, and Sato. Each tile features a broad, low-profile format with a gently textured surface that catches light and shadow across its length. Mounted on mesh backing for efficient installation, Harima brings quiet structure and grounded elegance to any wall surface.

As with all Koyo Ibushi tiles, Harima is made entirely from clay and carbon, with no glazes or synthetic treatments. Its microporous structure helps regulate humidity, absorb odours, resist frost and UV, and emit far-infrared radiation. These natural performance qualities are matched by a surface that is refined, tactile, and unmistakably Japanese.

Koyo Ibushi Harima is suited to a wide range of design applications, from spa and wellness spaces to feature walls, galleries, and architectural façades. It brings together elemental materiality, timeless technique, and a considered aesthetic that deepens with age.
