Koyo Ibushi Line is a sleek mosaic tile series handcrafted in Funatsu‑cho, Himeji by the master ceramicists at Koyo Seiga. Made using the traditional Ibushi Kawara method, each tile is formed from clay that is slowly fired and then smoked in a reduction chamber. This process creates a natural carbon film known as Ibushi Silver, a soft metallic sheen that reflects light gently and develops a deeper patina over time. Koyo’s mastery of this technique has been trusted in the restoration of historic sites, including the UNESCO-listed Himeji Castle.
The Line format features slim, horizontal tiles arranged on mesh sheets to create a calm, structured rhythm across the surface. The unglazed finish enhances natural variation in tone and texture while maintaining a minimalist appearance. Line tiles are suitable for both indoor and outdoor walls, including fireplaces and areas exposed to frost, provided the surface is properly sealed.
As with all Koyo Ibushi tiles, Line is made entirely from clay and carbon, with no glazes or synthetic additives. The porous surface offers natural humidity regulation, odour absorption, UV and frost resistance, and far-infrared radiation emission. These qualities are inherent in the material, making it both practical and enduring.
Please note that the sheet images show the actual tile layout. However, due to the fine linear format, the tiles may appear larger on screen than they are in reality. For clarity, refer to the exact dimensions listed on the product page.
Koyo Ibushi Line brings structure, stillness, and material refinement to architectural walls. It is ideal for designers seeking natural performance, traditional craftsmanship, and clean, modern expression.
